Abstract [English Translation]
The scientific, phytopathological, technical and media interest generated in Spain by the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa is not comparable to that aroused by any other subject related to plant health in recent decades. Despite the amount of information available on this pathogen, not all of it has the necessary rigour and therefore this book aims to provide reliable information, provided by Spanish experts in the field and researchers from other countries with extensive experience in this bacterium. The book includes 15 chapters that aim to offer an updated, but also realistic, practical and critical review of the current state of knowledge about this bacterium and the diseases (bacteriosis) for which it is responsible. It consists of nine general chapters and six more specific chapters on the situation and problems of X. fastidiosa diseases in America and Europe, including Spain. Reading the different chapters leads us to delve into the complex system that comprises X. fastidiosa, its host plants, their vectors and the environmental conditions of the environment.
This book has been published with the contribution of researchers from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreements No. 635646, POnTE (Pest Organisms Threatening Europe) and No. 727987 XF-ACTORS (Xylella Fastidiosa Active Containment Through a multidisciplinary-Oriented Research Strategy).
