COLIN JEFFRIES
Head of the United Kingdom’s post entry potato quarantine unit he is a regulatory plant pathologist/virologist with primary interests in production of pathogen-free potatoes and application of the testing standard ISO 17025. He has over 25 years experience with phytosanitary measures for potato including: the production of EPPO standards; and developing diagnostic methods for detection of potato pests, particularly viruses. He is lead author of: FAO/IPGRI Technical Guidelines for the Safe Movement of Potato Germplasm; and the IPPC and EPPO diagnostic protocols for Potato spindle tuber viroid. He helped produce ISPM 33 ‘Pest free potato (Solanum spp.) micropropagative material and minitubers for international trade’. He was a coordinator for EUPHRESCO PHYLIB “Epidemiology and diagnosis of potato phytoplasmas and ‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum’ and their contribution to risk management in potato and other crops” and is a coordinator of PHYLIB2
