PROFILE
CITOLIVA is a non-profit foundation established to implement methodologies and systems dealing with technological requirements in the olive oil sector. CITOLIVA acts at the forefront of innovation by belonging to and cooperating with networks and promoting the transfer of technology and knowledge, contribute to the increase of competitiveness among companies and provide value to society. Our expertise is based on the following R&D lines:
- Olive Oil and Health: new products based on olive oil and by-products, quality control, food safety, health, processing technology to improve quality, sensory analysis.
- Sustainability in farms and mills: olive orchard plagues, olive oil carbon footprint, efficiency in use of water, olive crop mechanization, soil management, farming systems, recycling waste and by-products of olive oil value chain, automation and information technologies in mills.
- Knowledge transfer, commercialization and marketing: technology transfer, branding, business organization, olive oil consumer behaviour, by-products and new products demand, competitive intelligence.
ROLE IN THE PROJECT
CITOLIVA will collaborate in implementation of effective strategies for management and containment of Xf in olive orchards by developing standard guidelines and quarantine measures based on pest risk assessment (PRA) programs to be used to build and promote a network of quarantine facilities at EU level; will help in the validation of diagnostics tools by performing assays on comparative efficiency and practical feasibility of selected methods in co-operation with end users. CITOLIVA will have a prominent role in dissemination of technical and scientific results of the Xf research to the olive sector and stakeholders by elaborating cultivation guidelines for olive growers and nurseries; will organize training, workshops and demonstrative field trials for integrated control for olive; will publish recommendations in local extension journals and Media relationships; will elaborate management tools for foresters and forest authorities on a regional level to minimize the impact of invasive pathogens and will elaborate communication plans and early warning systems based on the latest applications and networks (APP, Facebook, etc) for public or consumers information and awareness.
