Leonardo De La Fuente and Joao Lopes in Bari for a study visit on Xylella fastidiosa
From 12 to 16 June, 2017, CNR-IPSP, in collaboration with UNIBA-DiSSPA, organized a study visit of two major experts in the field of Xylella fastidiosa and associated vectors, Leonardo De La Fuente, Associate Professor at the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology of Auburn University (Alabama, USA) and Prof. João Roberto Spotti Lopes, Team Leader at the Laboratory for Insect-Transmitted Phytopathogens, Department of Entomology and Acarology (ESALQ), University of São Paulo, Piracicaba (Brazil).
In the course of their stay, the two scientists met the Italian colleagues involved in the research activities ongoing within the framework of POnTE and XF-ACTORS Projects, offering their skilled contribution, and took the chance to visit the Salento area of Xylella outbreaks.
On 14 June, a dissemination event was held at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Bari Aldo Moro, open to all students, where Prof. De La Fuente gave a lecture entitled “Nutritional elements moving in the xylem influence the virulence of Xylella fastidiosa” and Prof. Lopes talked about “Vectors of Xylella fastidiosa in Brasil: ecology and control”.
