During the last 12 years, his scientific work has revolved several studies, mainly related to agricultural insect pests and insect vectors of plant diseases. He worked at University of Catania, University of Turin and now at IPSP-CNR of Bari. Main scientific studies: distribution and identification of biotypes of whithefly Bemisia tabaci in Sicily, vector of TYLCV on tomato; search of potential insect vectors of phytoplasmas in vineyards of southern Italy; phylogenic relationship between different aphids belonging to genus Brachycaudus and Aphis; studies of Planococcus ficus and P. citri and other mealybugs on grapevine in Piedmont and Liguria and Sicily; transmission trials of viruses GLRaV-3, GLRaV-1 and GVA by mealybugs vectors; study of populations of Bemisia tabaci and Trialeurodes vaporariorum in transmission of the tomato viruses TICV and ToCV; correlation between different biotypes of Aphis gossypii and the CTV, agent of the disease known as “tristeza” of citrus.
